Know about Lucknow Railway Station
Lucknow is the capital of the state Uttar Pradesh in India. It is believed that this name has been derived from the word Lakshman, the younger brother of Lord Rama, an incarnation in Treta Yuga as per belief and recorded writings in Hindu epics; who was asked by Rama, king of Ayodhya, to establish a place near Ayodhya and so he came to this place full of woods at that time and named Lakhanpur. Even today there is a place known as Lakshman Teela in Lucknow, perhaps the site and the place where Lakshman might have come and built his empire, which somehow or the other relates with the ancient history very well and worth believing.
Lucknow is situated in the very heart of the famous Gangetic Plain, surrounded by towns and villages growing one of the most delicious fruits available on this earth mango near Malihabad in Kakori. The culture of formality is very well known in this city with full of regards as well as respect in the words used by the people for others known as tehzeeb.
There are many railway stations here, served by the Indian Railways, at various parts of the city. At Charbagh we have the main railway station known as Lucknow Railway Station. At Lucknow, Northern Railway (NR) and North Eastern Railway(NER) both play important role, having Lucknow ( the code –LKO) and Lucknow Junction( the code- LJN) in their share or we can say the main terminal and the second terminal respectively. Being capital city of one of the largest states of India, the Lucknow Railway Station is a major junction having a great connection and links with all or most of the major cities of its state as well as country.
It has direct links with Allahabad, Ahmedabad, Agra, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Mumbai, Pune, Jaunpur, Indore, New Delhi, Varanasi, Mughalsarai, Gwalior and so many, difficult to name here in such a small space and facility available.
There are thirteen railway stations at Lucknow, naming –Alamnagar, Amausi, Aishbagh Junction, Badshahnagar, Dilkusha, Daliganj, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow City, Malhaur, Manak Nagar, Mohibullapur, Transport Nagar and Utretia.
All these railway stations, said in the previous paragraph, are very well connected with each other and are within the city limits via road links as well as public road transport system. Other suburban stations are including Bakshi Ka Talab and Kakori. Lucknow –Kanpur Suburban Railway also covers many other railway stations.
Meter gauge services are now originating from Aishbagh and connecting Lucknow City, Daliganj as well as Mohibullapur. Broad gauge is connecting all other railway stations except Mohibullapur. The Lucknow-Kanpur Suburb Railway serves daily commuters up and down every day, while a few of the trains run from Barabanki City also.
Metro and Mono Rail Services are likely to come in operation very shortly. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been given the responsibility for this high capacity mass transit system operate at an earliest efficiently.
The existing railway station building was erected somewhere in the year 1926. It has beautiful domes and minarets of Saracan Design built in by the red bricks. There are wide and long frontages of verandahs in an architectonic ideas resembling with the Mughal Arches.
As far as the amenities for the passengers are concerned at the railway station, retiring rooms, dormitories, tourist information center, post and telegraph services, computer reservation facilities, refreshing rooms serving both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes,tea stalls, book stalls and Government Railway Police force are also available for 24X7.
