Lucknow is the capital of the state Uttar Pradesh in India. It is believed that this name has been derived from the word Lakshman, the younger brother of Lord Rama, an incarnation in Treta Yuga as per belief and recorded writings in Hindu epics; who was asked by Rama, king of Ayodhya, to establish a place near Ayodhya and so he came to this place full of woods at that time and named Lakhanpur. Even today there is a place known as Lakshman Teela in Lucknow, perhaps the site and the place where Lakshman might have come and built his empire, which somehow or the other relates with the ancient history very well and worth believing.

There are thirteen railway stations at Lucknow, naming –Alamnagar, Amausi, Aishbagh Junction, Badshahnagar, Dilkusha, Daliganj, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow City, Malhaur, Manak Nagar, Mohibullapur, Transport Nagar and Utretia.

All these railway stations, said in the previous paragraph, are very well connected with each other and are within the city limits via road links as well as public road transport system. Other suburban stations are including Bakshi Ka Talab and Kakori. Lucknow –Kanpur Suburban Railway also covers many other railway stations.

Meter gauge services are now originating from Aishbagh and connecting Lucknow City, Daliganj as well as Mohibullapur. Broad gauge is connecting all other railway stations except Mohibullapur. The Lucknow-Kanpur Suburb Railway serves daily commuters up and down every day, while a few of the trains run from Barabanki City also.
