Ahmedabad Railway Station

Ahmedabad Junction Railway Station is the main terminus which gives access to different parts of Gujarat as well as country. It is major station in the city because trains from different parts of the country stops here. Ahmedabad is also considered an important centre of Western Railway zone of the Indian Railways. It is also referred as Kalupur Railway Station because this station is situated in Kalupur area of the city so local people call it as Kalupur station so that they can differentiate it from other station. Other stations which is connected to the city their names are Gandhigram, Sarkhej, Asarva, Maninagar and Sabarmati Junction.
Ahmedabad Railway station is well connected with all the major cities of India. It is also connected properly with some important Indian stations like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai and Indore.

Ahmedabad Railway station has twelve numbers of platforms.

Ahmedabad Railways Station holds the facilities of waiting room and retiring rooms. There is the catering service on the station itself which offers hygienic food at reasonable price. Station had the Snack bars, tea stalls, medical shops and help desks. Tata Indicom also runs a cyber cafe on the station itself. The government too had planned to make it as a technologically advanced station. ATM facilities are also available at the station. There is the availability of prepaid taxi and auto services.

Ahmedabad Railway station has also started token-issue system so that they can sale ticket with a proper speed. Token system will save the time of buyer.

There are number of hotels located near the railway station, airport and at the city centre. Hotel provides a comfortable and good quality facility for the one who stays there.

Ahmedabad Railway station has hand push luggage trolley service. It is really new idea for station because these trolleys are generally available at the airports. So far this service is only available for platform no. 1. They are planning to use it on all platforms.

In May 2010 Ahmedabad Railways Station has also launched the service of golf car facility for physically challenged persons and older people.

As told by Minister of state, five lifts will be installed in all platforms at the Ahmedabad railway station for helping aged and unwell people.

Major landmarks which tourist would like to visit are not very far from the Railway station. Kankaria Lake is 2.6 km, Siddhi Sayyad’s Mosque is 2.5 km, Gandhi Ashram is only 6.6 km and Bhairavnath Temple is about 4.5 km, ISKON Temple is 11 km and distance to the Airport is only 8.6 km.

Ahmedabad is one of the largest cities in India. It is also an important city in Gujarat. It was established by Sultan Ahmed Shah in 1411. During the British era Ahmedabad was known for its different kind of textile industry.

Ahmedabad played an important role for the freedom of India. Ahmedabad is also known for a Gandhi Ashram which is situated on the banks of Sabarmati River. It is also an important centre for learning about culture and heritage.
