Varanasi Junction or Varanasi Cant Railway Station
Varanasi is also known as Banaras and a famous city in Uttar Pradesh, India, it is situated at the bank of river ganges. It is the oldest city in India. The city has many historical monuments and attracts tourist from all over the world.

This station has modern facility; it has Route interlock system along with automatic signal system. In Northern Railways Varanasi Cant station generates highest revenue. Its daily records show that more than 1.5 lakh passengers uses Varanasi Cant and over 250 trains goes through it.
There are two divisions such as Lucknow Division and Varanasi Division which controls the administration of this station. Lucknow Division comes under the Northern Railway Zone and Varanasi Division comes under the North Eastern Railway Zone of Indian Railways.
When Mamata Bannerjee was the Railway Minister, she included this station in the list of stations selected for World-Class Railway Stations development project.
The station has all the modern facilities available for the travellers. It has book stalls, tea stalls, restaurants with vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. Online ticket booking facilities have been provided by the Indian railway.
There are buses and rickshaw available at reasonable price for travelling into the different part of the city. One can get buses easily for other cities of India like Allahabad, Lucknow, Jaunpur, Faizabad and Gorakhpur etc.
The East Indian Railway Company built the first railway line for Banaras. In 1862, first railway line was started from Howrah to Banaras. Varanasi Cant station is built on bank of river ganges. Later on rail line from Banaras to Lucknow was started by Oudh and Rohilkund Railway Company in 1872. For connecting Banaras to Mughalsarai, Dufferin Bridge was built over the river Ganges in 1887.
When Mr Kamlapati Tripathi was the railway minister, he got constructed the present building towards city side of Varanasi cant. And the other cantonment side building was opened by Mr Nitish Kumar when he was railway minister. Circulating area of the station has been renovated few years back.

Mughal Sarai Junction which is also a major rail hub is situated at the distance of about 15 km east of the city Varanasi. This is the nearest station and it also serves Varanasi city.
